Acrylic, also known as PMMA or Plexiglas®, is a clear, rigid, unbreakable, UV-resistant plastic material that belongs in the thermoplastic family.
Its strength and resistance require long and tedious cutting methods to indirectly obtain a smooth and non-cutting result. Forget the other methods, and discover Plexiglas® laser cutting!
Develop clean finishes and shiny edges with acrylic laser cutting! Plexiglas® laser engraving and cutting can be done with our CO2 laser machines since this material is transformed under the result of heat.
Laser cutting is not only precise, but also preserves the aesthetics of PMMA sheets as the laser beam passes through the Plexiglas® to cut it. Proper programming and usage of the machines will allow you to obtain an optimal result, which will not require any alterations.
The combination of power (ranging from 25 to 150W depending on the machines), speed, frequency of use, and the choice of a suitable optical focal length, allows a deep cutting of this material. The Gravograph laser engraving and cutting machines will allow you to cut acrylic up to 1 inch thick (approx. 25.4mm)!
The depth of laser cutting and engraving depends on the focusing lens used. Gravograph is always in search of performance and quality. We have designed a wide range of focusing lenses from 3.8 to 10 cm. These lenses are developed for our two main solutions, gantry machines, which are proficient on engraving and cutting projects, and galvo laser machines that specialized in marking.
Gravograph's expertise extends to the software used to control its machines. The Gravostyle™ software comes standard with our laser machines. It allows you to save pre-settings or predefined parameters. The user can even set and save their own cutting parameters for a worry free project.
As Acrylic melts under the heat effect of the laser, the air assistance system equipped in our machines manages the temperature at the point of impact on the material in order to guarantee an optimal rendering.
Acrylic laser cutting generates fumes and particles, which must be extracted and filtered. A fume and debris extractor system is essential to optimize its surface condition. These optional systems are part of the Gravograph approach. The LS1000XP and all of our other machines have a smoke extractor, which is placed under the machine to save space.
The LS1000XP's table is equipped with cutting blades which will limit its contact between the material and the cutting media.
